Breathe Deep Phoenix is a 5K walk/fun run to raise money for critical lung cancer
research. The course is located at Kiwanis Park and is friendly to strollers, wheelchairs, pets (as long as you clean
up after them), and bicycles. We will have entertainment by Starz
Entertainment as well as crafts, face painting and games for the kids to enjoy! Kona-Ice
will be a vendor on event day and 25% of sales will be donated back to Breathe
Deep Phoenix!
Awards will be given out to the top funraising individual, top fundraising team, largest team and best costume (adults, kids, pets).
Story from our Coordinators
Breathe Deep Phoenix was started by Jeanne Colquette after hearing the news that her best friend from high school, Jill Feldman, had been diagnosed with lung cancer at age 39. After dealing with the loss from lung cancer of Jill's father, mother, and aunt, the diagnosis was a nightmare come true. Jeanne decided to create a place for other people who have been affected by lung cancer to come together to raise money for research. Jeanne wants to be able to one day say that she helped cure lung cancer! Click here to read Jill's blog!
Last year, Lisa Gacula got involved with Breathe Deep Phoenix after participating in the 2011 5K with her mom, Mely. At the time, Mely was just diagnosed with lung cancer. She was healthy and active, and she was also a non-smoker. Since then, Lisa has been on a crusade to let everyone know that lung cancer affects everyone, not just smokers. As the Breathe Deep motto says, "If you have lungs, you can get lung cancer."
