Our Story

Breathe Deep Kankakee was started in 2009 by Tammy Johnson in support of her mother, Wanda, after Wanda was diagnosed with lung cancer. Sadly, Wanda lost her battle with lung cancer in 2011. Tammy and her 8-year-old daughter, Alexis, hope to raise awareness and much-needed funds to help end lung cancer so that no one else has to bear the loss that they have.

Breathe Deep Kankakee is a 3mile untimed walk and fun run to raise money for critical lung cancer research. The course is friendly to strollers, wheelchairs, and pets (as long as they are cleaned up after!). There will be a raffle and awards will be given to top fundraisers!

Pathologist, Dr. Mark Pool will be speaking and entertainment will begin at 11:00 and so be sure not to miss the awesome demo being done by Tri-Star Martial Arts Academy.
