Breathe Deep DC is pleased to have NEWS4 Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer

Doug's family has been impacted by lung cancer, and Doug will emcee the walk’s program for the second year and join in the walk.

Our Story

Breathe Deep DC was started by Jerry Sorkin. Sorkin, a 46-year-old Bethesda father of two, was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in 2007. With the help of LUNGevity Foundation, Sorkin and his friends created Breathe Deep DC, a 5K walk, to raise awareness and funds for lung cancer research. The first Breathe Deep DC was held in November 2009. In three years the event has hosted thousands of participants and raised over $800,000. Breathe Deep DC provides a wonderful opportunity for individuals affected by lung cancer to be with others and to feel the power of a community coming together-to remember lives lost and to support those fighting the disease.
