I am running in Breathe Deep Nashville because I have a personal connection to Lung Cancer. My father-in-law, who I considered my second dad, fought against it for 1 1/2 years before losing his battle last year. To say the least, it was a terrible experience for all involved, but we made the most of the time we were given with him. He was a fantastic man, who fought a fantastic fight and against all odds lived 1 1/2 years after his diagnosis. Doctors gave him much less time with that, with many life-threatening hurdles avoided along the way, by what we consider to be none other than divine intervention.

That said, his battle with this terrible disease lit a spark in my wife and me to find a way to provide support to lung cancer patients, raise awareness around lung cancer, and fund early detection and cure research. So many other cancer foundations have a huge following, and thus a large amount of research and other resource funds. Lung Cancer doesn't. LUNGevity, my wife and I, are trying to change that.

So, on Saturday, November 22, 2014, we will be running in Breathe Deep Stache & Lash 5K.

Proceeds from this event will benefit LUNGevity Foundation, the leading private provider of research funding for lung cancer.

The mission of LUNGevity Foundation is to have a meaningful and immediate impact on improving lung cancer survival rates, ensure a higher quality of life for lung cancer patients, and provide a community for those impacted by lung cancer.

In order to accomplish our mission, LUNGevity funds the most promising research into the early detection and successful treatment of lung cancer. LUNGevity also supports the largest national grassroots lung cancer network, as well as the largest online support community for those affected by lung cancer.

Please join me in my efforts to stop lung cancer--the leading cancer killer--now!
